Course Overview
This course will focus on educating nurses to support young people to make healthy choices regarding their sexual health. It will provide an overview of STIs and BBVs and their mode of transmission, as well as pathways available for young people to access services for their sexual healthcare needs.

Course Components:
Part 1: Online modules
Participants should complete a short online survey to gauge baseline knowledge and confidence in sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses (BBVs). Participants should then complete the Sexually Transmissible Infections and Blood Borne Viruses: Nursing Module prior to attending the facilitated training. This should take approximately 2 hours to complete.
Part 1 will be considered assumed knowledge in the facilitated training.
Part 2: Facilitated training
The facilitated component will be comprised of 7 hours and 30 minutes hours of interactive training consisting of presentations, quizzes, and group discussions.

- Demonstrate an understanding of the range of normal development for young people and the social determinants of health
- Describe common STIs and BBVs and their mode of transmission for all young people in Australia
- Apply resources and strategies to enhance communication with young people to improve their sexual health and wellbeing
- Analyse and consider innovative pathways for young people to access services for their sexual health care needs
Endorsement and CPD:
This activity is pending endorsement by ACN. It is anticipated to be allocated 7.5 CPD hours.
