This face-to-face workshop equips health workers with essential knowledge on syphilis, building health champions to support our communities.

 

Target Audience

The workshop is targeted at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, Nurses, Midwives, GPs and allied health workers in the following sectors:​

  • Sexual health​
  • Mental health​
  • Alcohol and other drugs ​
  • Maternal and child health ​
  • Antenatal care ​
  • Emergency services​

Course Components

This workshop includes:

  • Pre-workshop learning: Completion of the syphilis pre-learning online module
  • In-person workshop: Attendance at the half-day workshop (including a networking lunch)
  • Post-workshop engagement: Completion of a post-workshop survey feedback and ongoing learning

Participants will receive practical tools and strategies to apply in their workplaces and have the opportunity to network with peers and colleagues across the sector. Sessions include epidemiology, presentation and symptoms, transmission, screening, testing, prevention and contact tracing.

This workshop is funded by the QLD Office of First Nations Health.

 

Liability/Insurance

Registration does not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that all attendees take out their own travel insurance and medical insurance prior to the meeting. The policy should include loss of fees through cancellation of your participation in the meeting itself, loss of airfares for any reason, medical expenses and repatriation should travel arrangements have to be altered. In the event of industrial disruptions or natural disasters the ASHM cannot accept responsibility for any financial or other losses incurred by delegates. Nor can ASHM take responsibility for injury or damage to property or persons occurring during the meeting or associated activities. Insurance is the responsibility of the individual attendee.
