Course Overview

Course Description:

Developed and presented by nurses, this interactive course will focus on the complexities of HIV care and the nurse’s role. Topics will include monitoring and adherence issues, ageing with HIV and screening for co-morbidities, and the impact of HIV on quality of life and wellbeing. 

 

Target Audience:

Nurses experienced in the care of people living with HIV. 

Note: The workshop content replicates that of both the 2023 and 2022 iterations. Past attendees are welcome to join, but please be aware that the content will be repeated.

Course Components and Date:

This education program will be conducted in two parts: 

Part 1: Online Modules 

Participants will complete the online modules before attending the facilitated workshop. The online modules will take up to 70 minutes to complete and will be assumed knowledge in the facilitated workshop. 

 

Part 2: Online Facilitated Workshop 

The facilitated component will comprise of a 4-hour online interactive workshop consisting of presentations, polls, and case-study group discussions.  

 

The workshop will be held on the following date:  

Friday 28 June 2024, 9:30am – 1:30pm (AEST) 

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the common co-morbidities associated with living longer with HIV and potential risk factors.   
  • Discuss routine screening assessments and the interpretation of these assessments.   
  • Identify nursing interventions for promoting treatment adherence.  
  • Identify a shared care plan for patients living with HIV  
  • Outline issues that affect the wellbeing and quality of life of people living with HIV. 

 

Endorsement and CPD:

This activity is endorsed by the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) for 5 CPD hours. 

This activity is pending endorsement by ACN.
