In 2020, ASHM International pivoted its longstanding support to the Catholic Church Health Services (CCHS) in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to focus on infodemic management to address the abundance of COVID-19 information (including misinformation) to health workers. In 2021, ASHM established a similar infodemic management program with Child Fund PNG based on the key learnings and successes of the CCHS project.
Activities included the establishment of platforms (text, email and WhatsApp) for distribution of frequent COVID-19 information including:
- Conducting live WhatsApp messaging sessions to address vaccine hesitancy
- Direct facility support sessions with clinical and public health specialists
- Implementation of COVID-19 Safety Facility Plans at project facilities
- Provision of technical advice on vaccination rollout
Project Impact:
- Knowledge exchange
- Community support
- Raising awareness
- Shared experience
- Building resilience
- Scalability to roll out the project in other territories
