ASHM is proud to work in collaboration with sector partners, including professional organisations, research institutes, community organisations and people living with hepatitis B, towards eliminating hepatitis B in Australia. We do this through collaborating on the National Hepatitis B Mapping Report, jointly developing clinical education programs, resources, and working in partnership on policy, recommendations and clinical guideline development.

ASHM has taken a leadership role in advancing hepatitis B policy in Australia. Particularly advocating for broadened prescribing rights for practitioners working in community settings and more recently publishing a resource developed to support clinicians who have patients with CHB applying for a permanent VISA. ASHM also oversees the National Hepatitis B Testing Policy , a practical guide that outlines current best practice for health professionals ordering and interpreting hepatitis B serology.

ASHM’s hepatitis B education and training programs meet the learning needs of a diverse number of healthcare practitioners. These include; introductory hepatitis B updates; in-services; prescriber training, combining online learning and practical workshops; and courses specific to roles or settings such as, nursing or those working in cultural and linguistically diverse or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. ASHM develops and maintains multiple hepatitis B resources to provide healthcare practitioners with tools to implement hepatitis B testing, diagnoses, ongoing monitoring and treatment if clinically appropriate. These include ASHM Decision Making in Hepatitis B; B Positive , The Hepatitis B Testing Portal, and more. ASHM also develops and maintains hepatitis B resources for non-clinical professionals who work with the affected communities living with CHB, such as Aboriginal health care workers, Aged Care Workers and Interpreters. The Australasian Viral Hepatitis Conference is the leading multidisciplinary viral hepatitis conference in Australasia. The conference is held bi-annually and was first convened in Sydney in 1997. The Australasian Viral Hepatitis Elimination Conference is held every other year and showcases the latest scientific developments and real world implementation of best practice of hepatitis B and and hepatitis C care.
