Nurse Practitioners and Advances Practice Nurses are invited to attend an upcoming joint webinar by ACNP and ASHM.
Strengthening STI and BBV Prevention through Nursing Practice will provide nurse practitioners with practical strategies to support the prevention, screening and management of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs), particularly HIV PrEP in contemporary healthcare settings.
This webinar will explore current epidemiological trends in Australia and examine the critical role in identifying opportunities for STI and BBV prevention, testing and early intervention. Participants will gain an overview of priority populations, routine screening practices, and approaches to initiating culturally safe, person-centred conversations about sexual health.
A key focus of the session will be HIV prevention, including the role of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in reducing HIV transmission. Attendees will learn how to identify patients who may benefit from PrEP, undertake baseline assessments, support ongoing monitoring, and incorporate HIV prevention strategies into routine clinical care. Practical guidance and clinical resources will be highlighted to support confidence in decision-making and implementation.
Through case studies, participants will strengthen their knowledge and confidence in delivering evidence-based prevention strategies and advocating for equitable access to care.
