Overview

This two-day face to face training course helps nurses and midwives understand the public health aspects and clinical management of common STIs, HIV, hepatitis B and C. The course helps participants develop confidence in a proactive and practical approach to health care and evidence-based practice. This course is for healthcare professionals practicing in ACT. We are currently only accepting registrations from ACT.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this course and its components, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the clinical presentation and the role of nurses and midwives in managing STIs 
  • Identify the priority populations for STI and BBV screening 
  • Demonstrate confidence in discussing sexual health with patients 
  • Describe contact tracing processes 
  • Describe current HIV prevention methods

  1. Pre course survey   
  2. Online Learning Module | STIs and BBVs for Nurses and Midwives (2 hours)
  3. Two in-person live Interactive Sessions  
  4. Between workshops activity (1 case study)  Joey case study (via SurveyMonkey)
  5. Post course survey

  • This activity is endorsed by ASHNNA.
  • This activity has been endorsed by APNA according to approved quality standards criteria. Completion of these educational activities entitles eligible participants to claim 9.5 CPD hours
