Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a highly effective HIV antiretroviral medication used to prevent HIV infection. Since its PBS listing in 2018, PrEP has become a key component of Australia’s national HIV prevention strategy, contributing to significant reductions in HIV transmission and supporting the goal of virtual elimination by 2030.
Primary care clinicians are central to PrEP access and continuity of care. Their work in HIV and STI testing, patient education, suitability assessment and ongoing management has strengthened PrEP uptake across Australia.
The PrEP Suitability Mini Audit Series consists of four individual mini audits. For each mini audit, participants will systematically review the PrEP management practices of a minimum of 5 patients against current guidelines.
Each mini audit is designed to take 6 hours across 8-12 weeks to complete. Participants may complete all four mini audit guides or select the guides most relevant to their practice.
Learning Objectives

- Review the management of a cohort of patients who may be considered for PrEP and/or who are currently using PrEP.
- Assess your ongoing monitoring of patients on PrEP against the National PrEP Guidelines.
