Primary care clinicians play a vital role in Australia’s efforts to eliminate HIV transmission. This practical face-to-face training, delivered in partnership with Rural Health West, will equip primary care clinicians with the knowledge and confidence to incorporate HIV prevention into everyday practice through the appropriate use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
Participants will explore the current epidemiology of HIV in Australia, review the range of HIV prevention strategies, and gain a practical understanding of available PrEP dosing options. The face-to-face session will also focus on providing effective patient education, supporting informed decision-making, and implementing the Decision Making in PrEP tool to initiate and manage patients on PrEP in a primary care setting.
