Overview

Approximately half of the HIV care in Australia is provided in general practice, and available data suggest that HIV care provided by a GP is consistent with care provided by a specialist HIV physician. Despite this, there is still considerable uncertainty around ‘shared care’ – a model of care in which a patient sees a GP and other medical specialists. This resource provides background on the shared care model and guidance on recommended monitoring and preventative health for patients living with HIV, utilising a comprehensive GP Management Plan for HIV shared care.
