From 1 September 2026, the prescriber accreditation requirement for hepatitis B medicines under the PBS Section 100 (s100) Highly Specialised Drugs Program will be removed. As a result, all medical and authorised nurse practitioners will be able to prescribe hepatitis B antiviral treatment without additional specialist accreditation. ASHM is currently updating its website, education and resources to reflect this change.

Trans and gender diverse people continue to face significant barriers receiving safe and affirming healthcare. ASHM recognises the ongoing need for professional education that responds to the evolving health care landscape and supports healthcare professionals across varying levels of experience, disciplines, and practice settings. This presents a significant opportunity to strengthen workforce capability, increase the availability of gender-affirming health care providers, and improve equitable access to care for community. ASHM supports the workforce with up-to-date information, clinical resources and training across trans and gender diverse health, from sexual health care through to prescribing gender affirming hormone therapy. We work in close collaboration with community organisations, clinicians and researchers so that care is shaped by the people who receive it.

Supporting practice that is inclusive by default, from intake and language through to screening and referral, so trans and gender diverse patients receive optimal care without having to educate their clinician first.

A two-part course pairing e-learning with live facilitated sessions and a competency assessment, for clinicians who want to prescribe GAHT using an informed consent model. RACGP accredited for 5.0 educational activity hours.
Co-designed with ACON for clinicians working in sexual health settings or delivering sexual health care in primary care. Five modules, around 90 minutes, free, and endorsed by AusPATH.
Six case studies for eligible prescribers of gender affirming hormone therapy, working through real-world prescribing decisions. Around 90 minutes, 1.5 CPD hours.
