From 1 September 2026, the prescriber accreditation requirement for hepatitis B medicines under the PBS Section 100 (s100) Highly Specialised Drugs Program will be removed. As a result, all medical and authorised nurse practitioners will be able to prescribe hepatitis B antiviral treatment without additional specialist accreditation. ASHM is currently updating its website, education and resources to reflect this change.

Overview

SEEK B is a quality improvement program designed to support clinicians integrate hepatitis B screening and management.

The program consists of three online learning that guides participants through hepatitis B clinical and auditing, from data cleaning through to linking patients in ongoing care.

Completing SEEK B aims to increase the number of people identified for screening, testing, linkage to care, and management for hepatitis B in primary care, thereby reducing the prevalence and mortality rates of hepatitis B in Australia.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Integrate sustainable hepatitis B quality improvement (QI) practices into routine clinical practice.
  1. Locate appropriate education and clinical resources for hepatitis B screening and monitoring
  1. Implement a clinical audit to ensure hepatitis B guideline-based care
  1. Implement a clinical audit to identify people with undiagnosed hepatitis B
  1. Demonstrate that people at risk of adverse outcomes of hepatitis B infection are protected by immunisation
  1. Maintain accurate coding of hepatitis B-related clinical data

Module-specific project objectives

  • Stage 1: Data cleaning and completeness – This introductory stage focuses on data clean-up and coding, which underpins quality improvement across all subsequent stages. Clean, accurately coded data is the foundation for everything that follows.
  • Stage 2: Screening – In this stage, you will audit your clinical software to identify patients with risk factors for hepatitis B. You will then learn how to add actions and reminders to the software to ensure they are offered screening.
  • Stage 3: Linkage to care – In this stage, you will review patients who have a confirmed hepatitis B diagnosis to ensure they are engaged in ongoing monitoring, assessed for the need for regular HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma) surveillance, and offered treatment when appropriate.

CPD: This is an approved activity under the RACGP CPD Program. Activity number 1709175

  • 1 Educational Hours
  • .5 Performance Review Hours
