The Introduction to Syphilis Nursing online learning module is designed to provide nurses with knowledge of priority populations for screening and testing, appropriate testing, interpretation of serology and contact tracing to reduce syphilis infections in Australia.

This one-hour learning module includes 3 topic areas using scenario-based questions to reinforce learning.

3. Treatment and contact tracing/partner notification

Learning Objectives

  • Identify priority populations for syphilis screening in your workplace
  • Distinguish the stages of syphilis infection by the patients clinical presentation and history
  • Outline the process of contact tracing/partner notification after a syphilis diagnosis

Target Audience: This OLM is designed for nurses working across Australia with patients at risk of STIs and BBVs. It will be particularly relevant for those working in, primary care, general practice, youth health, alcohol and other drugs, mental health, justice health, women’s health, refugee health, HIV, sexual health, those wanting to build on their existing knowledge of syphilis and those working in response to the current syphilis outbreak. It will also be relevant for midwives.

CPDThis online learning program is endorsed by ACN according to our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Endorsed Course Standards. It has been allocated 1 CPD hours according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Continuing Professional Development Standard.
