From 1 September 2026, the prescriber accreditation requirement for hepatitis B medicines under the PBS Section 100 (s100) Highly Specialised Drugs Program will be removed. As a result, all medical and authorised nurse practitioners will be able to prescribe hepatitis B antiviral treatment without additional specialist accreditation. ASHM is currently updating its website, education and resources to reflect this change.

Overview

As HIV treatment evolves and simplified treatment regimens become more common, understanding the implications of viral hepatitis co-infection is increasingly important. This webinar will provide a practical update on hepatitis B, hepatitis D and hepatitis C in people living with HIV, with a particular focus on treatment decision-making and avoiding unintended consequences when modifying antiretroviral therapy.

Drawing on recent clinical evidence and case studies, the session will explore hepatitis B reactivation risks, considerations when switching from tenofovir-containing regimens, and best-practice approaches to managing viral hepatitis co-infections in primary care and specialist settings.
