People & Culture Manager

Lead people strategy and partner with leaders to build capability, strengthen culture, and support a high-performing, values-driven organisation.

The People & Culture Manager provides practical, hands-on leadership across the full people function, supporting employee lifecycle management, workplace relations, compliance, learning and development, and HR systems, while enabling a safe and engaged workforce in the health and not-for-profit sector. 

Location: Sydney 
Employment Status: Fixed Term 
Salary: $110,000 plus super

Key Responsibilities 

People & Culture Leadership 

  • Lead and deliver the People & Culture strategy aligned to business goals and values 
  • Partner with the Executive and leaders on workforce planning, structure, and change 
  • Build a values-led culture that strengthens capability, performance, and engagement 

Employee Lifecycle   

  • Oversee the full employee lifecycle, from hiring through to development and offboarding 
  • Support leaders with performance and development initiatives 
  • Use workforce data and insights to inform decision-making and improve outcomes 

Workplace Relations, Compliance & Risk 

  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, awards, and internal policies
  • Provide expert advice on employee relations matters including performance and conduct 
  • Manage investigations and help minimise people-related risk 

Learning, development & capability building 

  • Develop and deliver learning initiatives to build leadership and capability
  • Support succession planning and talent development pathways 
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement 

Systems and Processes 

  • Improve and optimise HR systems and processes to enhance efficiency and experience
  • Oversee people reporting, compliance, and workforce analytics 
  • Use data and insights to support planning and decision-making 

Qualifications and Experience 

Essential: 

  • Tertiary qualification in HR, IR, Organisational Psychology, Business, or related 
  • 7+ years in HR/P&C, incl. 3+ years in a senior/management capacity  
  • Experience across the full employee lifecycle (workforce planning, recruitment, performance, L&D, ER) 
  • Experience supporting culture initiatives and change programs
  • People-centred leader with a practical, outcomes-focused approach 

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification or professional accreditation (e.g. AHRI) 
  • Experience in health and/or not-for-profit sector 

Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong knowledge of employment law, IR frameworks, awards, and compliance 
  • Broad P&C expertise across wellbeing, D&I, engagement, and culture 
  • Experience with HR systems and using data to inform decisions 
  • Ability to build capability through L&D and workforce planning 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills 
  • Sound judgement, problem-solving ability, and attention to risk 
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism; collaborative leadership style
