About the position

Illawarra Sexual Health Services provides training for RACP Advanced Trainees in Sexual Health Medicine. The program includes clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted infections, HIV and viral hepatitis; reproductive health including contraception and medical termination of pregnancy; gender affirming care and genital dermatology. The position is supported by the RACP Specialist Training Program (STP).

You will work in a supportive multidisciplinary team and attend clinics across multiple sites. There are opportunities for teaching and research, with close liaison with Public Health and Infectious Diseases. There is no inpatient responsibility, however you will provide specialist advice to hospital and community-based clinicians.

This position is suitable for doctors undertaking Advanced Training in Sexual Health Medicine, including those commencing training or nearing completion who require targeted experience in areas such as HIV, reproductive health, genital dermatology or gender affirming care.

This position is supported through the RACP Specialist Training Program (STP), which provides funding for professional development, regional training support, relocation assistance and infrastructure.

Essential criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Enrolled, or eligible to enrol, as a Sexual Health or Infectious Diseases Advanced Trainee with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate with patients from a wide range of culturally and linguistic backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and members of the LGBTQI community
  • Interest or experience in STIs and HIV, medical education and research
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Class C driver’s licence
