Sexual Health for Nurses and Midwives

Incorporate Sexually Transmissible Infection (STI) and Blood Borne Virus (BBV) screening in your practice and increase your knowledge and confidence in STI and BBV clinical management with ASHM’s sexual health training opportunities for nurses and midwives.

Last Updated: 03/10/24

Nurses and midwives play a critical role in integrating STI and BBV testing into patient care. This program offers introductory to advanced training to support nurses and midwives in providing evidence-based sexual health care to their patients through testing, case management, and ongoing prevention.

The mandatory pre-course OLM introduces the most common STIs and BBVs, and the Fundamentals course provides participants with the introductory skills to incorporate STI and BBV screening within their workplace. Building on the learnings from the Fundamentals course, the Management and Care course expands on the public health aspects and clinical management of common STIs and BBVs.

This program consists of three components:

  1. STIs and BBVs for Nurses and Midwives Online Learning Module (OLM) (1 hour)
  2. Sexual Health Fundamentals for Nurses and Midwives (2 hours)
  3. Sexual Health: Management & Care for Nurses and Midwives (8 hours)
