Course overview

Enhance your clinical confidence and teaching skills in acute and urgent care settings. This Train the Trainer program equips GPs and nurses with the latest evidence-based approaches to HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and Emergency Contraception, plus the tools to train colleagues in your workplace. Through a mix of interactive online learning, live sessions, and practical toolkits, you’ll gain the knowledge, decision-making skills, and peer education expertise to improve patient care and build capability across your team. 

Training package: 

The training package consists of:   

  • Clinical Foundations of Contraception online learning module
  • Key clinical resources (Decision Making in Contraception, Decision Making in HIV PEP and PEP Guidelines) 
  • 120-minute online facilitated and interactive session   
  • Pre- and post-course evaluation survey   
  • A toolkit to enable you to deliver the training in your own practice setting  
    • To support trainers providing refreshments or catering at the training session, ASHM can reimburse catering expenses of up to $10 per training session attendee. 
  • Ongoing follow-up support by ASHM 

Goal

The goal of this training is for learners to lead a training at their home practice on PEP and emergency contraception.

Learning outcomes

  • Assess eligibility for HIV PEP and Emergency Contraception in line with current Australian guidelines in acute and urgent care settings.
  • Initiate HIV PEP and Emergency Contraception according to current Australian guidelines in acute and urgent care settings.
  • Apply clinical decision-making tools and care pathways to manage PEP and Emergency Contraception presentations.
  • Identify barriers to timely access to PEP and Emergency Contraception
  • Examine key characteristics of adult learners and their implications for clinical education

Endorsement

Endorsement with RACGP and ACRRM is currently pending. This activity may be suitable for self-claiming CPD hours with your professional body. An estimated equivalent of 5 CPD hours applies for completion of all components.
