Course overview

This two-hour eLearning course is designed to help health professionals feel more confident and connected when talking with young people about their sexual health. You’ll explore who young people are, what they need, and how to approach these conversations with openness, clarity and care. It also offers a chance to reflect on your own mindset and responsibilities, so you can feel ready to support them in a meaningful way.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the range of normal development for young people and the social determinants of health
  • Assess your own mindset and beliefs about young people, and explain your legal obligations when providing care to young people
  • Describe common sexual health issues that arise when caring for young people, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs) and their mode of transmission
  • Apply resources and strategies to enhance communication with young people to improve their sexual health and wellbeing
  • Consider how to remove barriers young people face when accessing services for their sexual healthcare needs.

CPD:

This education is a CPD Activity under the RACGP CPD Program. This activity has been allocated 1.5 educational activity hours and 0.5 reviewing performance hour in the RACGP 2023-2025 triennium.

This course has been approved by ACRRM as an accredited activity. Allocated total 2 PDP units: 1.5 Educational Activity and 0.5 Performance Review. 

This activity has been endorsed by APNA and ASHHNA according to approved quality standards criteria. Completion of this educational activity entitles eligible participants to claim 2 CPD hours.
