Across Australia, rates of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) are rising. There’s also still plenty of work to do to eliminate the threats posed by hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
Western Australia is not immune. A syphilis outbreak has been declared across the state, and hepatitis C cases continue to be reported. While hepatitis C is now curable in primary care, there are still thousands of people living with the virus in WA – making it all the more important for us to find, test, treat and cure these people.

Liver Cancer: the role of primary care in reducing the burden

Liver cancer rates are increasing in Australia, despite it being one of the most preventable cancers. Primary care practitioners have a unique and important opportunity to protect their patients from liver cancer.
Delivered in collaboration with Cancer Council WA, alongside the Liver Foundation and clinical experts, this webinar will explore the epidemiology and key risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Key topics will include hepatitis B and hepatitis C, alcohol use, Metabolically Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD), and non-modifiable risk factors. It will provide practical guidance on how to assess and reduce liver cancer risk in general practice.

Hepatitis C for Nurses and Midwives

In this two-part webinar series, primary healthcare workers will learn everything from how to incorporate sexual and reproductive health into a consultation, how to take sexual history, guidelines for testing and approaches to common STIs. It will also cover the current contraceptive options available, and how to counsel patients on their options around unplanned pregnancy.

Curing hepatitis C in primary care
