This one-day face-to-face course provides nurses and midwives with practical knowledge and skills to support the screening, assessment, management and follow-up of hepatitis B and hepatitis C. The program covers epidemiology, testing and serology interpretation, vaccination and prevention, chronic disease monitoring, treatment pathways, and models of care. Emphasis is placed on culturally responsive, stigma-free practice and the role of nurses and midwives in engaging and supporting people living with viral hepatitis.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this course and its components, participants will be able to:
- Identify when testing/screening for HCV is indicated.
- Interpret HCV test results.
- Discuss required pre-treatment assessments for HCV.
- Determine which HCV treatment, monitoring and follow-up required.
- Examine the role of the nurse and midwife in models of care for HCV testing, treatment and follow-up.
- Examine hepatitis B epidemiology
- Identify opportunities for screening and testing, vaccination and linkage to care
- Explore the role of nurses and midwives in providing culturally responsive care that is free of stigma and discrimination
- Describe nurses’ and midwives’ roles in engaging people living with hepatitis B in ongoing monitoring and treatment

- Facilitated training: The facilitated component will be comprised of 1 x 8-hour face-to-face training session, consisting of presentations, panels, quizzes and group discussions.
- Post learning (recommended): Participants should complete the required post-course activities following the face-to-face sessions. This should take approximately 2.25 hours to complete required content.
