Course overview

Sexually transmissible infections (STIs) remain a significant public health concern in Western Australia. Primary care clinicians play a pivotal role in prevention, diagnosis, and management – including through increased opportunistic screening, treatment, and ongoing follow-up for patients and their partners.

This module reflects current Western Australian guidelines and is designed to support Western Australian primary care clinicians to confidently engage with their communities, discuss sexual health with patients, and deliver STI screening, testing, and treatment.

Learning outcomes:

  • Identify priority populations for STI screening in Western Australia
  • Integrate conversations about sexual health into consultations
  • Implement best-practice STI screening and testing using the WA Silver Book BBV/STI Guidelines
  • Outline your contact tracing responsibilities for patients diagnosed with STIs.

CPD:

  • This course has been approved as a CPD activity by RACGP for the 2023-2025 triennium. Educational Activities: 1.5 hours
  • This course has been approved by ACRRM as an accredited activity. Allocated total 1.5 PDP units: 1 Educational Activity and 0.5 Performance Review. 
  • APNA endorsement pending.
