Course Description:
This course will provide Nursing and Midwifery Professionals with advanced practical skills and knowledge in hepatitis B nursing.
The course is delivered in a face-to-face delivery which introduces the epidemiology of hepatitis B, vaccination and prevention, understanding testing, and serology, initial assessment includes Fibro scan assessment and the cultural context of hepatitis B nursing and midwifery. The second half of the day will involve case discussions and presentations on monitoring and management of chronic hepatitis B and HCC surveillance.

Course Components:
This course will be presented as a mix of self-paced and live facilitated learning, providing attendees an opportunity to discuss and practice strategies with peers and specialists. This is comprised of:
- Online Learning Modules
- Video Modules
- Attend a half day face-to-face session
Learning Outcomes:
- Examine hepatitis B epidemiology
- Identify opportunities for screening and testing, vaccination and linkage to care
- Explore the role of nurses and midwives in providing culturally responsive care that is free of stigma and discrimination
- Describe nurses’ and midwives’ roles in engaging people with hepatitis B in ongoing monitoring and treatment
This activity is funded by the Western Australian Department of Health.
All participants who attended the course in full will be awarded a Statement of Attendance. This can be used for self-submitting CPD.

Scholarships
ASHM is providing a limited number of travel and accommodation scholarships to attend the WA-based Nurses and Midwives. These scholarships are available to support nurses and midwives who work and are based in WA, specifically in regional and rural area’s outside of Perth.
Scholarship criteria
- Clinicians must be based in and work in WA to be eligible for a scholarship.
- Scholarships will be made available to nurses and midwives who are interested in the management and treatment of chronic hepatitis B.
- Priority will be given to applicants who have not attended the Hepatitis B for Nurses and Midwives course before.
- All applicants must complete the application truthfully and advise ASHM if their situation changes. All scholarship holders may be asked to report back from the course (according to specific guidelines).

- Travel included depending on location of applicant
- Accommodation for the duration of the course
Please Note: Reimbursements cannot be provided for travel costs that has been already paid for. We will book and pay for these directly to the supplier on your behalf to fulfil the requirements of the grants.
