This course will provide Nursing and Midwifery Professionals with advanced practical skills and knowledge in hepatitis B nursing.
The course is delivered in two 2-hour sessions. The first session includes presentations that introduce the epidemiology of hepatitis B, vaccination and prevention, understanding testing, and serology, initial assessment includes Fibro scan assessment and the cultural context of hepatitis B nursing and midwifery.
The second session includes case discussions and presentations on monitoring and management of chronic hepatitis B and HCC surveillance.

Course Components:
Part 1: Pre-course activities
Participants should complete the required pre-course activities prior to attending the facilitated training. This should take approximately 1.25 hours to complete required content. Pre-course activities list:
- Pre-course survey
- Clinical Foundations of Hepatitis B (recommended)
Part 2: Facilitated training
The facilitated component will be comprised of 2 x 2-hour webinars consisting of presentations, polling, and group discussions.
The webinar sessions will be run on the following dates:
- Date and time– Lived experience perspectives, epidemiology, culturally safe care, transmission, vaccination and prevention, testing and serology and initial assessment.
- Date and time – Hepatitis B ongoing monitoring, treatment and linkage to care, HCC surveillance and case studies.
Part 3: Post-course activities
Participants should complete the required post-course activities following the live Teams sessions. This should take approximately 2.25 hours to complete required content. Post-course activities list:
- Hepatocellular carcinoma video presentation
- Anatomy and Physiology of the liver and advance liver disease
- Post-course survey
Learning Outcomes:
- Examine hepatitis B epidemiology
- Identify opportunities for screening and testing, vaccination and linkage to care
- Explore the role of nurses and midwives in providing culturally responsive care that is free of stigma and discrimination
- Describe nurses’ and midwives’ roles in engaging people living with hepatitis B in ongoing monitoring and treatment
Endorsement and CPD:
All participants who attended the course in full will be awarded a Statement of Attendance. This can be used for self-submitting CPD.
