About the role
The Postdoctoral researcher reports to the Group Research Leader for Hepatitis B Research and sits within the Storr Liver Research Centre. The Postdoctoral researcher is responsible for carrying out molecular research into understanding hepatitis B pathogenesis and persistence.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Operations
- Directly carrying out molecular research in hepatitis B cure and carcinogenesis.
- Liaising with clinical staff and patients to enable sample collection and processing (e.g., schedule appointments, clinical data entry, and manage follow-up communication).
- Designing experiments, including Safe Operating Procedures to support protocol.
- Undertaking administrative functions of the lab
Data and Research Results
- Leading the collection, analysis, and interpretation of research data.
- Maintaining meticulous records of all lab work and data analysis.
- Developing research that results in publications or influences health outcomes.
- Potentially being involved in translating science to achieve therapeutic options for patients.
- Actively developing new directions and capabilities to expand research impact.
Research Outcomes
- Publishing outcomes in peer-reviewed journals.
- Contributing to grant preparation, ethics submissions, and progress reports.
- Presenting at local, national, and international conferences.
- Identifying and applying for funding opportunities for research and salary support.

To be successful in this role you will need the following education, experience, and technical knowledge:
- PhD
- Considerable record of publishing and presenting quality research.
- Specialist skills related to the research project.
- Experience in coaching and/or mentoring.
- Experience in writing ethics submissions and research protocols.
- Strong administration and organisation skills.
- Outstanding time and task management skills.
- Demonstrated effective working in both independent and within team environments.
- Self-motivated and pro-active curiosity.
- Personable and approachable demeanour.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Openness and responsiveness to feedback.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Previous success in grant applications is highly desirable.
- Scientific knowledge of hepatitis B and core molecular biology techniques is highly desirable.
