Course Overview
This one-hour eLearning provides a concise overview of the key components of STI management and care and provides a framework for dealing with a sexual health consult in your practice. This series consists of five short modules which cover topics such as the epidemiology, natural history, and transmission of the most common sexually transmissible infections (STIs) in Australia; how to and when to offer STI testing; tips for starting the conversation about sexual health; as well as the importance of contact tracing, and how to do it.
Course learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Summarise the epidemiology of frequently notified STIs in Australia.
- Describe the clinical presentation and management of chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis.
- Identify when and how to offer STI testing.
- Outline strategies for speaking about sexual health with a client.
- Explain why contact tracing is required.
CPD: This is an RACGP-approved CPD activity under the RACGP CPD Program. It is accredited for 0.5 educational activity hours, and 0.5 reviewing performance hours.
