ASHM Scholarship Program

The ASHM Scholarship Program provides a variety of scholarships to assist ASHM members, affiliates and others in the HIV, viral hepatitis and sexual health sector to attend national and international conferences.

The scholarships are managed through the Conference Division and awarded on the basis of objective criteria overseen by the Scholarship Committee. Each round of scholarships can be designated for specific professional groups or opened to a broader audience, details are provided with each round.

The Scholarship Program is designed to support collaborative professional development and all recipients are required to commit to providing a range of reports back to colleagues and peers. The ASHM 'Report Back' Blog is one way this reporting is done.

From time-to-time ASHM manages scholarships for different conferences and/or meetings and this same scholarship platform is used for these activities.

ASHM Educational Scholarship for 2017 Australasian HIV&AIDS Conference

ASHM is offering scholarships to attend the Australasian HIV&AIDS Conference 2017 from 6 – 8 November 2017 in Canberra, Australia.

These particular scholarships are from dedicated funding and are specifically for:

Priority will be given to those:

  • From smaller centres managing patients with HIV or at risk of HIV
  • Those who do not have access to other funding
  • Who meet the above criteria who have not attended this conference or other overseas HIV conferences before
  • Applicants who have not received funding from ASHM in the past, particularly in the last 2 years.

All applicants must complete the application form truthfully and advise ASHM if their situation changes. All scholarship holders will be expected to blog or tweet from the conference (according to specific guidelines), provide some content for the conference report and also to participate in one or more report backs after the conference. The nature of the report back will be negotiated with the recipient and be influenced by location and range.

ASHM is really trying to make the most of the conference scholarships, and reports from the conferences, for scholarship holders and ASHM members, affiliates and stakeholders generally. We may ask scholarship holders to communicate with each other to produce blogs, tweets and reports on particular topics, including making sure that all people are not covering the same sessions, but at the same time we will make sure that you get the best opportunities to report on your areas of interest and enjoy the conference to the utmost.

Scholarship Inclusions:

  • Return Economy flights (best fare of the day)
  • Accommodation (at a hotel nominated by ASHM, for the duration of the conference only)
  • Registration for the conference

Please Note: Reimbursements cannot be provided for travel, accommodation or registration, that have been already paid for. ASHM will book and pay for these directly to the supplier on your behalf to fulfil the requirements of the grants.

Only apply for a scholarship if you do not have access to the following:

  • Funds from a research grant to cover attendance at this meeting
  • Access to professional development funds available through your employer, such as health department and university funds
  • Funding from a pharmaceutical or other industry partners
  • Financial support through a research grant

ASHM scholarship application deadline for this round is Tuesday 3 October 2017.
