Course Overview

This two-part online course aims to provide practitioners with an overview of sexual and reproductive health care in general practice, covering sexual health, sexual history taking, STI screening, contraception and unintended pregnancy.    

This training also discusses how STI screening can be integrated into contraception and unintended pregnancy consultations.

Target Audience: 

GPs, GP registrars, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, and other health professionals working in primary care settings.

Day 1 Information:

  • Donna Tilley – Nurse Practitioner, Sexual Health and HIV Quality Improvement Coordinator, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District

Day 1 Content:

  • Incorporating SRH discussions into consultations  
  • Sexual history taking  
  • Guidelines for STI testing  
  • Sample collection  
  • Approach to common STIs  
  • Contract tracing 

Day 2 Information: 

Speakers:

  • Dr Nicole Filar – Medical Officer, Sexual Health Quarters
  • Cara Taheny – Nurse Practitioner, Sexual and Reproductive Health

Day 2 Content:

  • Components of Sexual Health  
  • Implementing effective sexual history taking  
  • Integrating evidence based STI and cervical cancer screenings into practice  
  • Current contraceptive options and counselling points  
  • Discussion on unplanned pregnancy, including counselling and discussion of options

  • Describe the components of sexual health
