Course Overview

Course Description: 

Australia has transitioned from an industry-sponsored antiretroviral treatment (ART) compassionate access scheme to a Federation Funding Agreement (FFA) model that provides free or affordable access to ART for people living with HIV who do not have Medicare.  

 

People living with HIV without Medicare are able to access their HIV treatment free of charge or at low cost through government-funded hospital pharmacies.

Chris Macintyre, Statewide Pharmacy Manager – Dispensary, Tasmanian Health Service, Tasmania.  

 

Learning Outcomes: 

This webinar will focus on dispensing considerations for HIV medications, addressing the following learning objectives. 

 

  • Outline recommended HIV treatment regimens 
  • Review potential HIV drug interactions and side effects 
  • Discuss the effectiveness and appropriate use of PrEP and PEP 
  • Overview the implementation of the Medicare Ineligible scheme in your state 

 

Endorsement and CPD: 

This activity has been accredited for 1 hour of Group-1 CPD (or 1 CPD credit), suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan. The accreditation number is S2023/99.

This webinar is supported by funding from the Commonwealth Department of Health. It is being run in collaboration by ASHM and SHPA (Society of Hospital Pharmacists).
