Course Overview

Viral Hepatitis and Preventing Liver Cancer 

Chronic hepatitis C and chronic hepatitis B are the leading causes of liver cancer in Australia.
Appropriate screening and testing are pivotal in the identification and management of hepatitis B and C and the prevention of liver cancer. 

 

This course will provide General Practitioners, other Medical Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, nursing professionals and health care providers with the knowledge and confidence to prevent liver cancer through effective diagnosis and management of hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

Target audience: ACT-based General Practitioners, other Medical Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, nursing professionals, and other health care providers.

Dr Ericka Flores, Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, Canberra Hospital

 

Course Components:

This free 2-hour face-face training includes presentations from specialists, facilitated case studies, and Q&A. 

 

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify risk factors for HBV, HCV, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), enabling discussions around prevention  
  2. Interpret HBV and HCV test results correctly to improve diagnosis and linkage to care  
  3. Explain the role of appropriate HBV and HCV management in the decreased incidence of liver cancer 
  4. Describe the recommended HCC screening guidelines

This course has been approved as an RACGP CPD activity in the 2023-2025 triennium.
