Summary of day two...

I think the two capacity building sessions on systemic review and research methodology were extremely useful. They were really fast-paced but covered a lot of information. Sessions were interactive so just made them more interesting.

My favourite session for the day was the debate between Prof Mark Boyd and Dr Thuy Le on the topic of “Should ITP (isonazid preventive treatment) be implemented for all HIV patients in the Asia-Pacific?”. The materials presented were very informative. The TB rate in Australia is very low so I wasn’t even aware of this recommendation. But apparently it’s highly relevant to other SE Asia country.

The highlight of the debate was actually when the argument moved onto the principle of good clinical care: physicians ignoring guidelines/ recommendations that based on good scientific evidence due to ego or resistance to change VS guidelines as a guide only but clinicians need to individualise treatment for each individual patient. It makes me reflect on my own practice.

My head is hurting from processing all this information.
