  • Full-time (38 hours) Monday – Friday with some weekend work required.

Queensland Positive People (QPP) are seeking a Peer Navigator to provide client-centred support for people living with HIV, who are experiencing barriers to HIV care and treatment.

About the role

As a Peer Navigator, you will:

  • use your lived experience of HIV and apply planned support methods to work with those either newly diagnosed with HIV or those reengaging in treatment and care.
  • apply holistic, client-centred and empowerment approaches to work with your clients in identifying needs in peer education and providing practical assistance to navigate the healthcare system.
  • assess barriers impacting access to treatment and care, and provide referrals to QPP’s Treatment Support Program where necessary.
  • participate in support coordination to ensure client goals are met and ensuring clients’ retention in care.
  • participate in social group hosting activities which can occur outside regular business hours.

Essential Requirements

  1. You must be a person living with HIV to apply for this role.
  2. Minimum Certificate III in community or health services or be working towards a similar or higher-level qualification is required.
  3. Hold a current QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
  4. Provide a National Police Check of 6 months currency or evidence that a check has been applied for.
  5. Provide a valid Driver’s license with no restrictions.
  6. Willingness to work outside normal business hours as required.
  7. Ability to travel intra and inter-state as required.
  8. Ability to maintain exceptionally high standards in the protection and promotion of client confidentiality/privacy.
  9. Well-developed verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Desirable

  • Relevant prior experience in community initiatives.
  • Community services experience including peer work in HIV, mental health or similar field.
