For the Australasian Viral Hepatitis Elimination Conference (AVHEC), the Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference and Australasian Sexual Health Conference – ASHM are proudly supporting SEW (Supporting + Empowering Women) in a new initiative that will supply our conference delegates with a conference satchel from this registered Australian NGO.
SEW is a social enterprise that provides employment to HIV+ women in Arusha, Tanzania through the production of fair trade conference bags. HIV and AIDS represent the leading cause of death among young people in Tanzania, with young women most at risk and the stigma experienced by people living with HIV and Aids is far-reaching. SEW seeks to end this stigma by demonstrating that HIV+ women are resilient, industrious and capable. Further, SEW is deeply committed to the sustainable economic development of HIV+ women and their wider communities.
SEW is a registered Australian NGO, being run by a group of Australian volunteers, with local Tanzanian management. All profits are re-invested into the project.
