The 2005 ASHM Conference was held from 24 - 27 August 2005 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
The conference was held back-to-back with the 2005 Australasian Sexual Health Conference. This proved to be a success shown by the large number of attendees at both conferences and the synergy developed with the conference program on the overlap day.
Delegate numbers were even higher than previous years with 795 attending the ASHM Conference and 426 at the Sexual Health Conference, which was an increase from their 2004 conferences. 251 of these numbers attended both conferences.
The conference program is accessible from this page as are the abstracts that were presented during the conference. Rapporteurs were selected for each of the conference streams. Their reports are available from this page as well. Information on the 2005 Australasian Sexual Health Conference program will be accessible from the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine website at http://www.racp.edu.au/page/australasian-chapter-of-sexual-health-medicine/.
The conference did receive quite a large amount of media attention. This could also be due to the combining of the ASHM and Sexual Health Conference where interest in one of the conferences program items spilled into interest into aspects of the other. Media releases achieved throughout the conferences are linked to this conference archive page.
The venue for the conference was the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart. The Gala Conference Dinner that was a joint dinner with the two conference attendees was held at City Hall. The evening was a great success with all enjoying themselves. |

The Prize Sponsor of the ASHM Confere
nce 2005 was Gilead. The Epidemiology prizes were sponsored by the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research.
Gilead is a bio-pharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercialises therapeutics to advance the care of patients suffering from life threatening diseases worldwide. They focus research and clinical programmes on anti-infectives, including anti-virals. Leading-edge products include Viread® (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) and Emtriva® (emtricitabine) for HIV/AIDS, Hepsera® (adefovir dipivoxil) for chronic hepatitis B and AmBisome® (amphotericin B) for severe fungal infections.
Gilead's focus is on supporting the need for simplified treatment regimens. A fixed-dose combination of Viread and Emtriva has been developed and Gilead recently announced collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb and Merck Sharp & Dohme to create a fixed-dose combination of three anti-HIV drugs - Viread, Emtriva and efavirenz demonstrating a further commitment to helping simplify treatment.
