The next New Zealand HIV update is scheduled for Friday April 6, 2018. The 2018 meeting will focus on the educational needs of clinicians and prescribers. The meeting will be clinically focused and will include a tailored program of speakers – the provisional theme is “The spectrum of care, from PrEP to HIV in an ageing population”. Aging and concerns about cognition are increasingly frequent issues faced by both people living with HIV and their carers. The HIV update will focus on both of these issues to provide both a cutting edge scientific review as well as practical teaching to improve the lives of many PLWHA.
We are extremely pleased to announce that Professor Scott Letendre from the University of California, world-leading expert in these topics, will be the guest speaker. Speakers from all over New Zealand will also be invited to contribute short lectures, with a session dedicated to short talks from Infectious Disease and Sexual Health trainee registrars. The meeting will close with networking nibbles.
This year a Clinical session on PrEP will be held the evening before the meeting on 5 April. This event is targeted to GPs and other clinicians who will be involved with prescribing PrEP. Vincent Cornelisse (Specialist in sexual health medicine, Prahan Market Clinic, Melbourne, Victoria) has been invited to present this session.
The aim of this evening event is to provide clinicians an update on strategies available for the prevention of HIV transmission, focusing on prevention particularly pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
